The Three Musketeers
Nuffield Theatre, Southampton
Directed by Max Lindsay
The Nuffield Theatre Youth Program perform an energetic and hilarious version of The Three Musketeers, written by Shaun Pendergast. Set in seventeenth century Paris, but with a modern twist, the young cast bring humour and delight to this old tale.
My set is designed to echo the traditional trompe l'oeil stage scenery of seventeenth century theatre, creating a realistic yet playful setting for the performance to come alive. Below are images of my modelbox for the design, and also images of the final set. All the walls, doors, skyscape and fly-ins are handpainted in a trompe l'oeil style.
Hand cut and hand painted fly-ins that featured at different points in the script.
Hand painted door and wall.
Tales From Ovid
Pavilion Dance, Bournemouth.
Directed by Russ Tunney
Tales From Ovid is a play of ten extreme stories inspired by Ovid's Metamorphosis, all sewn together by a thread of overwhelming passion. Gods, mortals, demi-gods all suffer terrible consequences for their vanity, their pride, their ambition and most importantly, their unbridled desire. They are transformed into trees, water, prophets, spiders, and most famously, a nightingale.
My set aimed to create another world, a kinetic and transformable design that could move and flow with the stories. A volcanic sand floor, flowing silks (on tracking that moved with each story), glowing sun; the set created a raw atmosphere in which only these tales could take place.
